1 AM and I'm awake for no reason.
I think "it's Christmas break, cut yourself some slack" but I can't help but feeling a uneasy feeling.
distracted.
That's the feeling I was experiencing.
I've never liked long breaks from school because I honestly have too much time to sit and just do nothing. I'm very much a creature who likes schedule.
Okay so what? It's Christmas break and I'm up and I feel distracted. But I can't help but feel there's more.
I felt more than just that I was distracting myself. I felt like my whole life was a distraction. Everything I did I was doing to avoid doing something else.
Social media, texting, playing instruments, doing absolutely nothing, you name it. It all feels distracting sometimes, doesn't it? But from what?
Well the only thing that could really deserve our attention all the time;
God.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't ever not do anything again except read your Bible and pray (even though we should do that A LOT.), but, I think we need shift our focus a bit.
In a selfie-centered-it's all about me- world, it can be tough. Everything around us tells us to be caught in the moment and live our life focused on just that, our life.
But no one ever says "hey take a moment and thank God for what he's given you", "Take a moment and sit in silence and wait for God to whisper", or "take a just a minute and praise the Creator who gave you life."
What if we did? What if it started with just you? If you could try for one whole minute to devote yourself to clearing your mind and thinking about God, how would it impact you? One minute would into two and two into ten and after awhile it's an hour.
A whole hour where you laid down distractions and gave your attention to God to hear the still-small voice that speaks volumes.
I'm already seeing the difference in my life. It's a huge, radical change when you can divert your focus onto the one thing in your life that matters the most. It'll change your whole perspective.
So I'm going to challenge you.
Lay down everything distracting you and think. Pull out your Bible for a moment and turn your ears to heaven. Put on a worship song and praise. You'll see change. It only takes a minute.
last thing! For more on this subject and how to achieve it I highly suggest reading "Practicing His Presence" by Brother Lawrence. Old books well-written never go out of style. :)
go in peace
